Rebel, Power & Protest at Ole MissThe Ringer
In February 2019, a few players on Mississippi’s men’s basketball team decided to protest during the playing of the Star Spangled Banner at a game denouncing a Confederate rally in their town of Oxford. For many students at the university, it was another salvo in a decades-long fight to change the racist symbols surrounding a leading SEC school. I went down to Oxford to understand the pain of the players and the student body at large.
